How to Succeed in Third Grade -

Comic Life

Using the program, Comic Life, have the students design a poster giving tips on how to succeed in third grade. These posters will be given to the new third graders at the start of the new school year!

The Mysteries of Third Grade - Comic Life

At the end of the year, the students think back to what they were nervous or curious about at the beginning of third grade.

How to Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

This is a fun activity to do during the last few days of school. The students each write a description of how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Then, their directions are read aloud to another student to see if the sandwich turns out quite the way the expected! I got this idea from Mrs. Thonus' website!

Create a Word Search - Have students create a word search on Puzzlemaker with their classmates' names and words about third grade

* Talk about the history of Popcorn
* Students make up their own story about how popcorn pops
* Pop-up - Read a list of words that begin with the "p" sound. Have the students take turns spelling the word, letter by letter, by popping up in their seat. If they are incorrect, they are out of the game.
* Popcorn Guess - Fill two jars with popcorn: one with unpopped kernels and the other with corn that has been popped. Challenge kids to estimate how many kernels of popcorn there are in each jar and record their guess along with their name on a small sheet of paper. Give a prize to the student that has the closest guess for each jar.
* Popcorn Relay - Divide the children into several teams and give each team a bowl of popcorn and a large spoon. Place an empty bowl opposite the team, about 10 yards away. On the word “go”, ask the first person in the line to scoop up a spoonful of popcorn, walk to the empty bowl opposite them, dump the popcorn into the bowl, walk back , and give the spoon to the next person in line. When everyone has had a turn, check the bowls to find the winning team…group with the most popcorn in the bowl.
